Contact Dr. Clark, Now

Gary B. Clark, MD, is a medical orthopedist with extensive experience in allopathic and osteopathic-style musculoskeletal medicine. Dr. Clark has a hands-on approach to diagnosing and treating joint injuries and ailments.

Requiring a medical or an osteopathic license or adjunct training, orthopedic medical diagnosis demands a solid understanding of total body gross and functional anatomy, musculoskeletal physiology, postural and gait analysis, and recognition of dysfunctional biotensegrity patterns. Orthopedic medical treatment requires mastery of that anatomy, as well as an in-depth understanding of musculoskeletal pathology and adept skill in osteopathic-style  manual therapy, orthotic therapy, and various medical regenerative injection techniques, including prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Orthopedic Medicine consists of medical evaluation and nonsurgical treatment of the musculoskeletal system.

Choosing the Right Medical Orthopedist for Your Pain Relief

Your medical orthopedist should be an expert in performing a functional musculoskeletal physical examination, which comes first and foremost in importance in reaching  a correct and complete differential musculoskeletal diagnosis. Reaching such an integrated, holistic diagnosis requires a solid working familiarity with adjunct diagnostic modalities like ultrasound, standard X-ray, fluoroscopy, CT scan, and MRI imaging. However, radio imaging should NOT be the first diagnostic resort—not can it be trusted as the last.  The physical examination comes first and foremost in reaching a complete musculoskeletal diagnosis.

The orthopedic medicine practitioner also needs to be familiar with adjunct therapeutic modalities, such as chiropractic, acupuncture, dry-needling and biofeedback, as well as rehabilitative methods like Rolfing™, Pilates™, and biofeedback. Other supportive techniques the practitioner should be familiar with are psychological support of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and medical pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical support of acute and chronic pain.

Also,  the medical orthopedist must have a strong understanding of the opposing physical forces involved in maintaining healthy, normal force balance (i.e., biotensegrity) at the integrated musculoskeletal joint level. Biotensegrity is a relatively new medical concept regarding the externally-derived and internally-generated forces acting upon musculoskeletal balance and joint stability and anatomic integrity. Joint stability, particularly, is often disturbed by persisting and eventually overwhelming physical forces (e.g., gravity and repetitive muscular movement or tension) resulting in clinically predictable (but often missed) musculoskeletal multi-joint injury, pain, and dysfunction. Thus, the medical orthopedist must be intimately familiar with the clinical effects on the integrated musculoskeletal system by motor vehicle, sports and other traumatic accidents—as well as acquired and genetic effects on collagen dysplasia (e.g., acquired post-pregnancy general ligament laxity and genetic Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome).
